When this hype-beast of a game was finally released, I was all over the online reviews. I will admit that it was a game I was greatly anticipating, hell I was even planning on buying a PS3 JUST to buy the game really. But the game got mediocre reviews, and many griped over quite a few short comings. The more I read, the more I didn’t want it. I haven’t even played the game and yet I was beginning to hate it…
And on an impulse (a friend was in need of money and was selling his PS3), I bought my second PS3 and my copy of GT5.
And I have to say about it is this: it’s bloody addicting. YES, the game has quite a many faults (long load times even after a MASSIVE install, only 200 of the touted 1000 cars are fully detailed, ALL the cars sound like vacuum cleaners). But I can’t for the life of me put it down. For all it’s faults, it’s still an excellent racing game. If you have any remote interest in high-performance driving with a sense of realism, it simply can’t be beat. I’m not gonna say it’s better than Forza 3, but I’m also not going to say that Forza is better either. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. But I will say that GT5 is a pretty damn good game, and it *may* have been worth the PS3 purchase. Maybe.

So, if you have any sort of automotive-pulse you may have heard of this car. It’s a one-off special co-designed by the minds at Red Bulls F1 team and the staff of the-game-that-never-will-be Gran Turismo 5. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged F1-spec V6 pumping out 1483 hp! Holy crap that is a large number. That being said, it doesn’t really run at all yet, only in the digital realm of GT5 (which we’re not even sure exists at this point!!), but according to reports a real-live prototype is headed to the GT5 launch party in Europe (GT5 and launch in the same sentence? No way!).
I’ve got to say, I love it just by the way it looks. This is what Formula 1 cars SHOULD look like!! And that brings me on to my point, could this one-off prototype actually be a sort of concept car for future F1 designs. I mean of course by current FIA regulations this thing would never see the light of day, and with the promised green movement F1 has committed to, the speeds it’s capable of may never be achieved. Still, I really believe that some of the design will be implemented into future F1 cars. After all, it was a bunch of F1 guys who more or less built it right?
Hat-Tip to Jalopnik for the scoop! And some awesome footage of Red Bull driver Vettel piloting the X1 in GT5 after the jump!

A new trailer for the game was released at E3 along with…….*gasp*………a release date!!! It is scheduled to drop on Nov. 2. Of course as is always the case with Gran Turismo 5, I’ll believe it when I see it. After all we been waiting years for this game, with many said released dates pushed back already. However this one seems to be legit.
Oh yeah, and also: OMG IT’S THE STIG!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I’m getting this game JUST for the Top Gear Test Track, so I can powerslide any car like Jeremy Clarkson. Can’t wait for that!!
