Second Take: Hyundai Genesis Coupe

So I spent a good three days behind the wheel of a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe this past week. And I have a couple of things to say…

3000 Miles with the 2011

You know, I hate to make it sound like I’m tooting my own horn here, but I’m really really pleased with these two pictures I took. The time and location were perfect, and my new lens (Canon 28-70mm f/2.8 L) is amazing.

Oh yeah, and the car’s not bad either! Sure, she’s not a looker. But then again, she sort of is.

2500 Miles with the 2011

So 2500 miles in now with the 2011 WRX. And let me see, yup, I think I still love it!

I do have an issue here though, and it doesn’t have to do with the low-rent interior (yet). When I was first looking at buying one, I was torn between the hatch and the sedan. I’ve always been a hatch guy, I love hatchbacks and never understood why they never caught on in America. It really pained me, but as you can see I went with the sedan. Everyone I asked told me the sedan was nicer and would be more unique. This is a problem I have, I sometimes rely too much on the opinion of others instead of going with my gut. And while I said that I do sort of like the way the sedan looks, after staring at it for about 2+ months I’ve come up with something: to me it seems like the Impreza was designed to be a hatch from the start, and the sedan version looks like the hatch with the back roof cut off. And now when I look at it, I can’t help thinking I should have got the hatch. The hatch just looks more…..right. Sigh, I knew this was gonna happen…

1000 Miles with the 2011 WRX

1000 miles in (okay, 950 miles, close enough!), and it’s time for my report!

Day 8 with the 2011

Day 6 with the 2011, originally uploaded by touge-n00b.

Day 8 means the first Autocross! With 450 miles on the clock! YES, I am crazy, and YES it was fun! This car is just so much better in this environment than the Legacy!

And yes, that IS a GT-R next to me. Props to Dr. Brad for not being scared at all to run an 80K car!

And I know I promised you a one week impression of the 2011. I’m working on it, no really!

(Even MORE) 2011 Subaru WRX

Now with video! Love the sound straight from the factory!

2011 Subaru WRX STI

At my test drive of the 2011 WRX, I also got to check out the 2011 STI. Oooohh, it’s a badass car. Too bad I never got to drive it. I was afraid if I drove it I would end up feeling the WRX was crap. I will say that it is superior as an enthusiast car, and not just because of the obvious performance upgrades. It’s a lot of little details as well, like for example the all black headlining in the interior, versus the rent-mobile-look light-grey inside the WRX. If I could afford one, I’d sign on the dotted line in a heartbeat right now, I really would. But I can’t, so I won’t. Sad Panda yo.

So I finally got some personal time with the re-upped wide-bodied 2011 Impreza WRX. And it sucks….

2011 Mustang GT 5.0 vs E92 BMW M3…….no really!

An unnecessary comparison, but awesome none the less. Yes I know, “the M3 is in a different league” and blah blah blah. But, I mean really, is it now days? I mean, watch the video and look at the raw numbers. IMO, it’s impossible to call one car better than the other definitively. It’s all subjective. All I can say is, thank god they still build some cars like these two!

And what would I choose? If money were an absolute NON issue, the M3. But here in the real world, I’ll put it this way: I think I could afford the Mustang. I know I can’t afford the M3….
