The Touge-Otaku

Driven by the Love of the Drive

Lotus Exige S Type-72

Lotus today revealed their tribute to…..themselves, for returning to the F1 grid next year: The Exige S Type-72.

It’s nothing more than a special painted edition of the normal Exige S (so the 220hp 1.8 Liter Toyota-sourced engine remains the same), however MY GOD it looks good! It’s inspired by the Lotus Type-72 which dominated Formula 1 in the 1970s, and the black and gold theme just sort of works. Lotus is building 20 for the UK market, and 20 for international export. The price for admission is £35,995 or 40,332 euro. No word if us Yank’s are getting a piece of the pie, which is a shame really. I’ve actually had the chance to drive a normal Exige S, and I love it. It’s motoring in it’s purist form. And if I wanted an Exige, THIS is the one I’d get, hands down!

isn’t this the one that was supposed to come in their new rubberized flat black paint or something?

Naw, that’s the stealth edition. This one is a glossy black finish. I don’t think it’s really black either, more dark dark gray.
